Love Story

Some love stories start with a spark, while others happen over a period of time…

For Dominic and Steven, their journey began nine years ago at a mutual friend’s party, where a warm introduction from Dom’s sister sparked an unexpected connection. They became best friends, sharing laughter and countless moments. For nearly two years, they kept their feelings at bay, cautious of the potential impact on their friendship. However, their bond only grew stronger, and after three and a half years of navigating an on-and-off relationship, they realized the love they shared was too precious to deny. Four years ago, they committed fully to each other, setting them on the path to this moment—eloping on their four-year anniversary.

Their day-to-day love is built on simple joys like walking their dogs, hitting the gym, and cooking delicious meals together. As foodies, their ideal dates revolve around exploring new restaurants, savouring every bite while creating memories that linger long after the meals are finished.

What excites Dominic and Steven most about their elopement is the chance to celebrate their love on their own terms. They cherish the idea of having a day that’s truly theirs—free from external pressures or expectations. In their words, “We can’t wait for our day to really just be about the two of us.” This laidback elopement is a celebration of their journey, a reflection of their deep-rooted love, and the beginning of all the NZ adventures still to come.

On the day

Tom (our videographer) and I met the couple at their beautiful Airbnb that had an awesome view of the Remarkables and the lake. It was a nice sunny day with clear blue skies, Dominic had prepared so much for this day. She had her initials embroidered into her pajamas, and she was putting on an adorable little brooch with family photos on her bouquet when we arrived. She even had polaroids of her friends and lit up some candles, which made her getting ready even easier to capture. We took advantage of her amazing decor and took a bunch of awesome flat lays to appreciate all the effort she put in.

After getting ready, we did a First Look out on the balcony before we drove to Heliworks. It was a little bit windy and cold when we flew up to Cecil Peak. Dominic and Steven braved that little bit of nip in the air (Dominic was even wearing an off-shoulder dress, which was super modern and absolutely stunning on her!). After the beautiful ceremony with the one and only Ellie, we flew down and headed to Jackspoint for some golden hour photos, which looked EPIC.
