Two minds that think alike, can eventually capture each other’s hearts.
Hannah and Hayden met in 2015 when they both went to a house party. Hayden remembered Hannah from high school and approached her, and even though Hannah couldn’t remember him, she was enamoured with his stories about racing in Europe. Even if they met by chance, these two have always been meant to be, and they’ve supported each other throughout their relationship. After a camping trip, they both quickly realized that they were meant for each other and soon after, they were restoring an old-school HR Holden for their bridal car, celebrating true love in Kelvin Heights, Queenstown.

On the Day
This isn’t the first time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Hannah and Hayden. We met a year ago for their engagement shoot, they came up to Queenstown and we ventured up to Coronet Peak for their photoshoot. A year later, we met again for their much-awaited Elopement day. It was such a special day for the couple, especially with the old-school HR Holden which they had lovingly restored as their wedding car being finished just in the nick of time. The boys drove to the ceremony location with the newly painted and fully restored bridal car, and the girls hired a green, old-school Ford.
The Bridal party had booked an Airbnb on Queenstown Hill to get ready in. The gorgeous Hannah had every little detail perfect, from a sign with “Simms” laser cut, down to Evie, the flower girl’s flower crown. We spent an hour getting Getting-Ready shots of the girls and of Hannah giving presents to her bridesmaids, as well as the beautiful florals by The Flower Room. We then went downstairs where the boys were hiding and took getting-ready photos of them as well, after their quick drink of bourbon.
The girls then drove off to Jackspoint, where we took photos of the bridal party with the two cars. Before Hannah and Hayden saw each other, we set up the first look between the two cars with the mountains as the backdrop. It was a scorchingly hot day, but when we went to Kelvin Heights there was a bit of a breeze, thankfully, which was much appreciated. We met with a few of their family members at the shore and Philippa Thomas, who was their celebrant. Little Evie walked down the aisle with her Mum, who was one of the bridesmaids, and Hannah followed with beautiful music playing in the background. After a short and sweet ceremony, we took advantage of the breathtaking scenery and took family photos there as well.
Hannah and Hayden then drove off to Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopter where we flew up to Cecil peak together with Tom, our videographer. It was 21 degrees up there at 7:00 PM, it was such a lovely evening, and we also managed to catch the beautiful golden-hour light in time for their couple’s photos. With Hannah wearing her awesome white denim jacket with “Bride” written on the back with rhinestones and her aviator sunglasses, we took photos with the amazing lighting while they held up their laser-cut sign. When the sun went down, we flew back to the ground and the couple then went to Botswana Butchery for a celebratory dinner to end their lovely Elopement day.
